CMA CGM Expands LNG Fleet with 24,000 TEU Megaship Delivery
French shipping giant CMA CGM has taken delivery of its new dual-fuel containership CMA CGM Grand Palais, strengthening its position in high-capacity, low-emission shipping, The Maritime Telegraph reports. The 24,000 TEU vessel marks the final unit in a four-ship series ordered in 2022.
Delivered on 17 March by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the vessel represents a new generation of ultra-large container ships built for long-haul efficiency and scale.
With a length of 399 meters and a beam of 61.3 meters, CMA CGM Grand Palais can carry up to 23,872 containers, including 2,200 reefer units. This positions the ship among the largest dual-fuel containerships currently in operation.
The vessel runs on a WinGD dual-fuel engine, allowing it to use both LNG and conventional fuel. Its LNG system, based on GTT Mark III membrane technology, has a capacity of 18,600 cubic meters and supports a range of up to 20,000 nautical miles on LNG alone, enhancing flexibility across intercontinental routes.
An advanced ICER system optimizes fuel combustion and reduces methane slip, helping the vessel meet IMO Tier III emissions standards while improving overall energy efficiency.
This delivery highlights CMA CGM’s continued investment in LNG-powered tonnage. As environmental regulations tighten, dual-fuel megaships play a key role in balancing cost efficiency, compliance, and emissions reduction across global container trades.
