Enesel Expands Dry Bulk Fleet With New Newcastlemax Order
Greek shipowner Enesel is expanding its return to the dry bulk market with a new 210,000-dwt Newcastlemax at a Chinese shipyard. Splash 247 reports that the latest deal brings Enesel’s dry bulk newbuilding programme to nine vessels, little more than a year after the company exited the sector.
The new ship will be built by Hengli Shipbuilding in Dalian and is scheduled for delivery in November 2028. Enesel has not disclosed the contract price. It will be the company’s fifth large bulker at Hengli, joining four 181,500-dwt Capesizes due in the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028.
The 295-metre-long, 50-metre-wide Newcastlemax will feature a shaft generator, an open-loop scrubber and an Everllence main engine. It will be built to EEDI Phase III standards.
Enesel’s return to dry bulk has gathered pace since the company booked two Capesizes at Hengli in April. By June, the Hengli series had grown to four ships, while another four 63,500-dwt Ultramaxes had been added at Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry.
The latest order brings Enesel’s Chinese dry bulk programme to nine vessels: four Ultramaxes, four Capesizes and one Newcastlemax. All are scheduled for delivery between the second half of 2027 and November 2028.
Enesel exited dry bulk last year by selling three Capesizes to Hayfin Capital. It then returned to the sector with its newbuilding orders at Hengli. The group’s existing fleet remains centred on tankers and large containerships.
