DP World Brings New Methanol Dual-Fuel Ship Into Service

DP World has named its first methanol dual-fuel vessel, DP World London, during a ceremony in Aarhus, Denmark. The new container ship is part of the company’s fleet modernisation strategy and its move toward lower-emission shipping solutions, Marine Insight reports.

The 1,250 TEU vessel was built in China and delivered in April 2026. Owned by Germany’s Elbdeich Reederei and operated by DP World’s Shipping Solutions, the Portugal-flagged ship will serve routes in Northern Europe.

At 148 metres long, DP World London is powered by a five-cylinder main engine and uses Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technology to help reduce emissions and meet international environmental standards.

The vessel completed its first methanol bunkering in Rotterdam on June 25, 2026. Unibarge provided the bunkering service, while Methanex supplied the methanol. The launch is part of DP World’s wider investment in its maritime fleet and more sustainable transport solutions.
