GSD Adds New Japanese-Built Handysize to Fleet

Turkey’s GSD Holding has ordered another Japanese-built bulker as part of its fleet renewal programme. The company has signed a contract for a 40,300 dwt handysize vessel, with delivery planned for 2030, Splash 247 reports.

The ship will be built by the Nihon Shipyard group for GSD’s Marshall Islands-based subsidiary Lena Maritime. Japanese trading company Itochu Corporation will guarantee the deal through its subsidiary Laurel World Maritime.

The order follows several recent bulker deals with Japanese shipyards, including new vessels from Nihon Shipyard and Oshima Shipbuilding. GSD has been expanding its Japanese newbuilding programme across the handysize and ultramax segments.

Fleet renewal is gaining pace as new vessels join the fleet. GSD took delivery of the 42,809 dwt Guzide from Oshima Shipbuilding in February. Its shipping arm currently operates seven bulkers, ranging from handysize to ultramax vessels.
