Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed two contracts worth over $1bn with a long-term customer that makes industrial equipment. The three-year deals cover sea transport and logistics services. About $950m will come from shipping, with nearly $100m from logistics. Splash 247 reported.

The company has not named the customer or shared the start dates and expected cargo volumes. Shipping rates will be similar to those in the previous contract. Other recent deals include a $420m extension with a major European carmaker, a $190m contract renewal for car distribution and a $130m agreement with an Asian vehicle and heavy equipment manufacturer.

The announcement follows an expansion of the company’s shipbuilding programme in China. Wallenius Wilhelmsen has ordered four LNG dual-fuel car carriers from Jinling Shipyard. Each vessel will have a capacity of 9,900 car-equivalent units (CEU). The company also has options for eight more ships. The first four are due for delivery from mid-2030, while the additional vessels could arrive in 2031 and 2032.

If all eight options are used, the newbuilding programme could cost around $1.5bn. Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s fleet renewal programme now covers 26 vessels, including ships available under options.
