The US Coast Guard has detained the cruise ship MSC Poesia at Port Miami after inspectors found problems with its onboard systems. MSC Cruises cancelled the ship’s 11-night Caribbean cruise, which was due to start on 1 November, The Maritime Telegraph reports.

The Panama-flagged ship was detained on Sunday during an expanded safety inspection. On 3 November, the Coast Guard confirmed that inspectors had found problems but did not give details. The ship must stay in port until the issues are fixed and authorities approve its departure.

MSC Cruises said it could not resolve the issue in time for the scheduled departure. More than 2,000 people were on board. The company has promised full refunds and help with passengers’ journeys home.
