India’s Great Eastern Shipping is adding a new 157,000-dwt Suezmax tanker to its fleet. The vessel will be built by a major shipbuilder in the Far East and is expected to be delivered between October 2028 and March 2029. Splash 247 reports.

The company has not named the shipyard or given the price and engine details. It plans to pay for the tanker from its own funds. Shipbrokers said the vessel is being built in Vietnam under Samsung Heavy Industries’ programme for Zodiac Maritime and has a price of about $85m.

Great Eastern currently has 40 ships, with a total capacity of about 3.24m dwt. The fleet includes 25 tankers and 15 bulk carriers. The company also has two used Kamsarmax bulkers due for delivery later this year. In 2026, it has spent more than $200m on secondhand ships, including the MR2 tanker Ardmore Engineer for $35.5m and the LR2 Seriana for $72m.

At the same time, Great Eastern has been selling older vessels. Since September 2025, the company has completed seven ship sales worth about $163.35m. One of them was the 2005-built Suezmax Jag Lok, sold for around $26m.
