Chinese shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding has completed its previously announced investment in Seaspan, acquiring a 10% stake in the containership owner through its holding company, Poseidon, Maritime Executive reports.

The company invested approximately $826 million, describing the move as a long-term strategic partnership rather than a purely financial investment. Yangzijiang expects the deal to deepen ties with a major customer, improve access to market intelligence, and strengthen coordination between vessel demand and its shipbuilding plans.

Seaspan is one of the world's largest independent vessel owners, operating a fleet of 247 ships, including vessels under construction, with a total capacity of around 2.5 million TEU upon full delivery. The company leases ships on long-term contracts to major liner operators such as MSC, CMA CGM, COSCO, ONE, Yang Ming, and Zim.
