The container fleet of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has surpassed 7.2m TEU in operated capacity, reinforcing its position as the world’s largest liner operator, The Maritime Telegraph reports. The milestone reflects MSC’s sustained fleet expansion and growing influence in global container shipping.

MSC now operates more than 800 container vessels, including owned and chartered ships. Since 2020, the carrier has added hundreds of vessels through newbuildings and second-hand acquisitions, widening the gap with rivals.

The company maintains a strong orderbook, with ultra-large and LNG dual-fuel container ships under construction in Asia. These investments support fuel efficiency and IMO decarbonization goals.

Following the wind-down of the 2M Alliance, MSC plans to deploy its fleet independently from 2025, while expanding its integrated logistics network through terminal and inland investments.
