South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has secured a contract worth about $553 million to build ten 2,800 TEU feeder containerships connected to fleet development plans by HMM, according to The Maritime Telegraph.

Shipbroking sources estimate each feeder vessel at roughly $55 million, with deliveries scheduled through December 2028. The project complements HMM’s wider newbuilding programme, which already includes twelve 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships ordered from Korean yards. At the same time, HMM has placed additional feeder-ship orders with China’s Huanghai Shipbuilding, covering vessels in the 1,800 TEU and 3,000 TEU ranges.

HMM currently ranks eighth among global liner operators. The company manages a fleet of more than 90 vessels with total capacity exceeding 1 million TEU. Beyond container shipping, the group remains active in dry bulk, tanker, car carrier, and LPG segments.
