Taiwanese shipowner U-Ming Marine Transport is ready to spend up to $312m on six new bulk carriers in China. The deal covers two 211,000 dwt Newcastlemaxes and four 64,000 dwt ultramaxes as the company works towards a fleet of more than 100 ships. Splash 247 reported the orders.

The Newcastlemaxes will be built by Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry for $77m to $80m each. U-Ming had already ordered two ships at the yard earlier this year and held options for two more. The latest deal confirms these options, bringing the total Hantong order to four vessels.

The four ultramaxes, each around 64,000 dwt, will come from New Dayang Shipbuilding. U-Ming will pay between $142m and $152m for the group. The first ship is due in the fourth quarter of 2029, while the other three should follow in 2030.

The new ships are part of a wider fleet growth plan. Dry bulk remains U-Ming's main business, but the company also operates VLCCs, VLOCs, offshore wind vessels and LNG ships. By the end of September, its owned, joint venture and newbuilding fleet had reached about 90 vessels and more than 10m dwt.
