Lianson Fleet Buys Third Ultramax Bulker for $23m
Malaysia’s Lianson Fleet Group has added another bulk carrier to its fleet as it expands beyond offshore support vessels. The 61,446 dwt ship was built in Japan in 2013 and is named LFG Cengal. The company acquired the vessel for $23m, using its own funds, Splash 247 reported.
This is the third Ultramax vessel acquired by LFG in just over three months. In July, the company bought two bulkers built in 2017 for $52.32m. It also agreed to buy the 2012-built Supramax Sea Affluence for $15.5m in June. Total spending on these bulk carrier acquisitions has now reached about $90.8m.
LFG expects the latest acquisition to provide more regular income from charter contracts and strengthen its position in international dry bulk shipping. The company says it owns and operates 12 offshore support vessels and 41 marine transportation assets, including bulk carriers, tugs and barges.
