Six LNG dual-fuel containerships to join Yang Ming fleet

Taiwanese shipping company Yang Ming has ordered six 13,650-TEU LNG dual-fuel containerships from South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean. The $1.14 billion order is part of Yang Ming’s plan to renew and improve its fleet, The Maritime Telegraph reports.

The new ships will be built at Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje shipyard and delivered between 2028 and the second half of 2029. They will mainly serve routes between Asia, the US East and West coasts, South America and the Mediterranean.

The vessels will use LNG dual-fuel propulsion and will feature Ammonia Fuel Ready specifications. They will also have several energy-saving technologies, including wind shields, rudder bulbs, pre-swirl stators and shore power systems.

This is Yang Ming’s second order from Hanwha Ocean in two years. In September 2025, the carrier ordered seven 16,000-TEU-class LNG dual-fuel containerships from the same shipbuilder.

The latest deal is part of a wider fleet renewal programme. Yang Ming expects 24 new vessels to enter service by 2030, including 18 LNG dual-fuel ships and six 8,000-TEU methanol dual-fuel-ready containerships.
