Singapore Issues Eight New LNG Bunker Licences
Singapore has awarded eight new licences to expand its LNG bunkering market and strengthen its position as a global marine fuel hub. The new five-year licences will take effect on September 1 as the country continues to increase the use of alternative marine fuels, according to Splash 247.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore selected eight suppliers: Aramco Trading Singapore, Equatorial Marine Fuel Management Services, ExxonMobil Asia Pacific, PetroChina International Singapore, Shell Eastern Trading, Sinopec Fuel Oil Singapore, Vitol Bunkers, and a joint venture between TotalEnergies Gas & Power Asia and Sembcorp Fuels.
The licences will remain valid until August 31, 2031. Companies awarded the licences must provide a full LNG bunkering service, including fuel supply, storage, cargo transfer and delivery to ships.
The selection process also evaluated each company’s ability to reduce methane slip and supply lower-emission fuels such as liquefied biomethane and e-methane.
The move follows a record year for Singapore’s bunker market. Marine fuel sales reached 56.77 million tonnes in 2025, while sales of alternative fuels increased by 44% to 1.95 million tonnes, reflecting growing demand for cleaner shipping fuels.
