MV On Peace Hit in Strait of Hormuz, 12 Seafarers Injured
Twelve seafarers were injured when the Panama-flagged tanker On Peace was hit by a projectile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz on 6 October. The ship had 19 crew members on board, including 17 Indian nationals. Eleven of the injured seafarers were Indian. Omani authorities helped evacuate them to Khasab for medical treatment, The Maritime Telegraph reported.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned the attack and called for an end to attacks on commercial ships, seafarers and civilian infrastructure. It also called for safe navigation and the return of normal commercial traffic through international waterways. India did not name anyone responsible for the incident.
Built in 2021, On Peace is a 250-metre oil tanker with a deadweight of about 115,000 tonnes. The Panama-flagged ship is operated by Dubai-based Onex. It is also on an Iranian blacklist of vessels subject to restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. The attack is part of a wider series of recent incidents involving commercial ships in the area, increasing security concerns for crews and shipowners.
