A deadly engine room fire aboard the Singapore-flagged bulk carrier Mandy has killed two crew members and sent a third to hospital, Splash 247 reports.

The fire broke out on February 17 as the 180,371 DWT vessel neared its destination of Yantai, China. All 25 crew members were Myanmar nationals. Despite managing to contain the blaze, the crew could not prevent two fatalities. Chinese authorities dispatched rescue vessels and a helicopter to the scene.

Pacific Rim Shipmanagement, which operates the bulker, is now arranging a tow to Yantai Port. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has opened a formal investigation in coordination with Chinese officials and expressed condolences to the victims' families. No environmental pollution was reported.
