Danish chemical tanker company Uni-Tankers is renewing its fleet with eight new stainless steel tankers. The 7,600 dwt ships will be built by state-owned Haidong Shipyard in Taizhou, China, with deliveries starting in 2028. Uni-Tankers confirmed the programme on LinkedIn, while Splash 247 reported that it is part of the company’s plan to replace older vessels.

According to the fleet data cited by Splash 247, Uni-Tankers operates 41 owned and chartered vessels, ranging from small coastal tankers to ships of around 20,000 dwt. Some of its owned ships were built more than 15 years ago, including Amak Swan, Anhout Swan and Boringia Swan.

The company has been using both direct ownership and long-term charters to renew its fleet. In 2023, Uni-Tankers arranged four stainless steel newbuildings: two sister vessels to the 6,043 dwt Sedat Basak and two 12,500 dwt tankers through a Japanese partner. Earlier that year, it also arranged two Japan-built newbuildings and two existing J19 stainless steel tankers on long-term charters, while buying the former Marex Noa.

Uni-Tankers is also investing in technology to improve fleet operations. In July, SplashTech reported that the company had selected Sofar Ocean’s Wayfinder platform for voyage optimisation across its fleet.
