Ukraine Tightens Medical Requirements for Seafarer Certification
Ukraine has introduced new certification requirements for ratings under Ministry for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport Order No. 1624, which entered into force on 22 September 2026.
The amendments require ratings applying for relevant qualification documents to have a valid seafarer’s medical certificate. The certificate must be issued by a recognised medical specialist authorised to assess seafarers’ medical fitness.
Medical certificates are valid for up to one year for seafarers under 18 and up to two years for those over 18. The Ukrainian Ministry of Health maintains a list of recognised medical specialists authorised to carry out medical examinations for seafarers.
The new requirement applies from 22 September 2026.
