Eastern Pacific Shipping expands capesize bulker orderbook at Hengli Shipbuilding
Eastern Pacific Shipping has expanded its newbuilding programme by adding another capesize bulker order, strengthening its presence at Chinese shipyards amid continued demand for large dry bulk tonnage, as reported by Splash 247.
The Singapore-based shipowner controlled by Idan Ofer has ordered four 180,000 dwt capesize bulk carriers at Hengli Shipbuilding. According to TradeWinds, the vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2027, with deal values estimated by market participants at $200m to $400m, depending on final specifications.
Eastern Pacific’s latest contract adds to an already substantial orderbook that now exceeds 140 vessels across multiple segments. The company has steadily built one of the most diversified newbuilding pipelines in the market, covering bulk carriers, tankers, gas ships and containerships.
Hengli Shipbuilding recently confirmed a 12-ship newbuilding package for Eastern Pacific, which ranks among the yard’s largest contracts this year, according to Lloyd’s List. Valued by brokers at between $1.1bn and $1.6bn, the deal spans three vessel classes and includes Eastern Pacific’s return to the VLCC sector after a seven-year break.
The newly signed capesize bulkers are part of a broader 11-vessel order placed by a group of international owners at Hengli, as noted by VesselsValue. The package also includes four 6,000 teu container ships, two LR2 product tankers and one 82,000 dwt bulker, reflecting strong demand across several shipping segments.
With this agreement, Eastern Pacific’s total business with Hengli Heavy Industry is now approaching 30 vessels, reinforcing its status as one of the most active shipowners in the global newbuilding market.
