Cruise Ship Fire off Singapore Leaves One Crew Member Dead
A fatal cruise ship fire off Singapore claimed the life of one crew member on February 20, The Maritime Telegraph reports. The blaze broke out around 04:00 on deck nine of the Liberia-flagged MV World Legacy, prompting a full-scale emergency response and evacuation.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force quickly brought the fire under control. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore confirmed that one Indonesian crew member died. Four passengers were hospitalised for further checks. No other injuries were reported.
There were 388 crew members and 271 passengers on board, including 139 Singapore nationals. Authorities evacuated all passengers safely at HarbourFront Ferry Terminal.
After the incident, the vessel moved to Raffles Reserved Anchorage. A core crew remains on board to support the investigation and maintain essential systems.
The 154.48-metre ship, built in 1982 and recently refitted in Singapore, is technically managed by Venture Ship Management Europe. Surveyors will assess the damage before the vessel returns to service.
