A major cargo ship fire in Manila left three crew members injured, according to The Maritime Telegraph. The Philippine-flagged vessel Meridian Dos caught fire at Manila North Harbor on December 3 while preparing to depart with container cargo. Dense smoke reportedly rose from the lower decks shortly after 6:00 a.m., forcing authorities to initiate an urgent response.

The fire escalated quickly, prompting the Bureau of Fire Protection to deploy around 30 fire trucks. After nearly three hours, the blaze was contained, with flames mostly restricted to the ship’s lower sections. The injured sailors were transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.

An official investigation is currently underway, led jointly by the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Philippine Ports Authority, and could result in new safety measures or sanctions.

The Meridian Dos, built in 1991 and measuring 94 meters in length with a 15-meter beam, has been operating in domestic service since 2014.
