Iranian Missile Strike on Tankers Leaves One seafarer dead in Strait of Hormuz
One Indian seafarer was killed and eight crew members were injured after an Iranian missile attack on two UAE-linked tankers in the Strait of Hormuz on July 13. Both vessels also sustained damage. The Maritime Telegraph reported the incident, citing information from the UAE Ministry of Defence.
The missiles struck the tankers Mombasa B and Al Bahyah while they were transiting Omani territorial waters. Among the injured were six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian nationals. Four crew members suffered serious injuries.
The attack triggered fires on both vessels, but the crews managed to extinguish them. The tankers also sustained structural damage. The UAE condemned the strike and described it as a serious violation of international law. Authorities said the country's armed forces remain on high alert to safeguard maritime security and national interests.
Both vessels had recently been transporting crude oil from terminals in the Arabian Gulf to offshore transfer areas near Khor Fakkan. The incident is the latest sign of rising security threats to commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy trade.
